What Makes Us Different?

Open Doors isn't a traditional school - and it's not your typical homeschool co-op either.

We're something in between and beyond, a space where children learn through nature, play, community, and meaningful connection, with their grownups by their side. Our days include: respecting child’s natural curiosity and autonomy for learning, social-emotional growth & a safe space to enjoy it all!

Our Core Values

🌿 Nature as Our Classroom

We embrace the seasons, the elements, and the wild — learning outside, getting messy, and tuning into the rhythms of the natural world.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parent-Involved, Not Drop-Off

Caregivers are active participants — co-learners, co-creators, and co-regulators. You’re not just dropping off; you’re diving in.

👐 Inclusion & Accessibility

We intentionally welcome families of all races, genders, neurotypes, faiths, family structures, and abilities. We celebrate different ways of thinking, moving, learning, and communicating - there is no one “right” way to participate here. We actively work to unlearn biases and build a future rooted in equity and joy.

🛠️ Real-Life, Hands-On Learning

Children learn best by doing. We value skills over worksheets, collaboration over competition, and projects that make sense in real life.

📚 Multi-Age, Relationship-Based Learning

We see the magic in mixed-age groups, intentionally mirroring natural community life. Older children practice leadership and empathy. Younger kids rise to the challenge. Everyone learns by doing, observing, helping, and growing together.

💛 Community-Focused & Connection-Centered

This is a place to belong — not just attend. We build meaningful friendships between families, honor each other’s stories, and show up for one another with care.

About Miss Courtney (Founder/Instructor)

Hi friends! I’m Miss Courtney, a big kid at heart who loves to learn and foster a love of learning in others! I have my degree in Early Childhood & Special Education, with experience teaching in numerous school settings, summer camps, and child care settings. I’ve long dreamed of creating a space where learning feels joyful, meaningful, and connected where kids can grow through play, nature, and real-life experiences.

Now as a homeschool mama, I’ve been pulled into that dream even more, wanting to extend that learning space to include families who feel truly seen, heard, and supported. Since the beginning of our own homeschool journey, I’ve come to believe that homeschooling is simply an extension of parenting — and that with the right time, tools, and support, every family can thrive.

Open Doors Schoolhouse is the heart of that dream. I can’t wait to welcome your family through our doors.
